The popularity of computer games has arguable reached saturation point as advances in modern technology has allowed these games to be proliferated very widely. Games can be played on your computer, console, telephone, MP3 player and on any other devices that has the capability to run games. As a result there are many hundreds of new games being constantly developed and the act of playing games itself has become more than a mere distraction for many people. Gaming is regarded by many as an extremely involved hobby and there are many people who invest a great deal of their time in playing games, reading up on them and purchasing the necessary equipment to play them. Many of the most fanatical gamers will play PC games and they often invest a great deal of money in upgrading their machines to ensure that they are capable of running the very latest games, that often have very high spec requirements, as smoothly as possible.
However, as is the case with nearly all things that gain popularity computer games are not without their controversy. There are many people that argue the content of some games, which may be especially graphic or violent, can have a negative effect on people who play them. There is also a great deal of concern over the addictive nature of some video games, notably those that are played online. Some players who enjoy online role playing games will spend many hours at a time playing them.
